Oxford, AL – As part of its continued investment in Alabama, Amazon today announced the opening of a new delivery station in Oxford, AL. The facility is expected to create up to 70 full- and part-time jobs, in addition to new driver opportunities.
"As Amazon continues to invest in the economic growth of Alabama, we are excited to contribute to that growth with the launch of our newest delivery station in the state,” said Deborah Massie, Economic Development Manager for Amazon. "Our commitment to driving economic growth and creating high-quality jobs in rural communities is exemplified with the launch of this facility. We're grateful for the partnership and support from the Calhoun County EDC, Mayor Alton Craft and the city of Oxford.”
The new 85,000-square-foot Amazon delivery station, WBM4, is located in the Oxford South Industrial Park. The launch of this facility is the result of a long-standing partnership between Amazon, the City of Oxford, the Calhoun County Economic Development Council and other key stakeholders.
“By collaborating with the Calhoun County EDC and other stakeholders, we’re creating meaningful opportunities for growth in our area,” said Mayor Alton Craft, City of Oxford. “Projects like this not only boost our local economy but also support the families who proudly call Calhoun County home.”
Delivery stations power the last mile of Amazon’s order process and help increase the speed of deliveries. Packages are shipped to a delivery station from neighboring Amazon Fulfillment and Sortation Centers, loaded into delivery vehicles and delivered to customers.
“This project represents a great investment in the region,” said Don Hopper, Executive Director of the Calhoun County Economic Development Council. “We are excited to see Oxford South Industrial Park grow with such innovation from a world-renowned company like Amazon and look forward to the positive impact this project will have on Calhoun County.”
Delivery stations also offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business delivering Amazon packages, as well as independent contractors the flexibility to be their own boss and create their own schedule delivering for Amazon Flex.
“Seeing this project come to fruition is a proud moment for our community and a step toward sustained economic growth,” said Larry Deason, Chairman of the Calhoun County Economic Development Council. “The Calhoun County EDC remains dedicated to attracting projects that will further enhance the prosperity of our region.”
Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 7,500 full- and part-time jobs in Alabama and invested more than $3.8 billion, including infrastructure and compensation to our employees. These investments have contributed an additional $3.6 billion to Alabama’s economy and has helped create more than 10,300 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires.
