A collaboration between the City of Piedmont, the Calhoun County Economic Development Council, and Industrial Resin Recycling has boosted the local economy with the installation of a new industrial transformer—an infrastructure upgrade that has already created 30 new jobs and set the stage for future growth.
The project showcases the impact of strong community partnerships in supporting local industry. As Industrial Resin Recycling secured new contracts and expanded production, it became clear that the existing electrical infrastructure could no longer meet the company’s growing demands. Thus, combined efforts led to the installation of a new transformer earlier this year.
“This is what economic development looks like at its best,” said Don Hopper, Executive Director of the Calhoun County Economic Development Council. “It is about working together to support the businesses that are already invested in our community and helping them grow, compete, and create new opportunities right here in Calhoun County.”
As a trusted leader in the plastics industry, Industrial Resin Recycling specializes in processing, manufacturing, recycling, and supplying high-quality plastic products in a wide range of sizes and for diverse applications. The Piedmont facility proudly serves the entire southeastern United States, by providing full-service recycling solutions for commercial and industrial clients, which includes plastic grinding and metal separation using advanced detection technology, compounding and re-pelletizing for reuse in production, as well as dependable warehousing and transportation handled by an in-house logistics team.
For the City of Piedmont, a community of around 5,000 people, the project is more than an infrastructure improvement. This is a win for working families and a signal to other businesses that the town is ready to support growth.
The City of Piedmont Mayor Bill Baker expressed that the "City of Piedmont welcomes new business opportunities for our city and residents who call Piedmont home.” He went on to add that “Piedmont is willing to invest and partner with others in hopes of building a stronger and more aggressive working community."
As manufacturing continues to evolve, and partnerships like this are proving to be essential to ensuring that small towns remain strong players in regional and national supply chains. With these new jobs nearly filled, Piedmont is building a brighter, more resilient future for all.
