The ribbon has been cut on Wellborn Cabinet’s new First Haven Cabinetry facility as of October 9th, 2025. Representing a $28 million investment, the 250,000-square-foot plant began operations in August and currently employs 85 people. Located on 60 acres in the Oxford West Industrial Park, the new facility is expected to create over 400 new jobs, and once fully operational, it will produce

approximately 2,000 cabinets a day, contributing to economic growth and development in Calhoun County and the surrounding communities.

Johnny Simpson, CEO of Wellborn Cabinet, stated, “The Trump Administration’s invocation of Section 232 tariffs on imported kitchen cabinets, vanities, and components is helping protect U.S. jobs and strengthen national security. We commend this bold and necessary action, which will help ensure that this facility and others like it across the nation reach their full potential. Wellborn Cabinet’s new First Haven manufacturing facility proudly sources 99% of its components from American suppliers, reinforcing our commitment to domestic production.”

Paul Wellborn, president and chairman of the board, reflected on the company’s journey from its early days to this latest milestone. “What makes the struggles a lot easier is having good people around you,” Wellborn said. “I thank God for the people who have made this company what it is. It all comes from Him.”

The First Haven product line features laminated, value-driven cabinetry designed for today’s entry-level remodeling and new-construction markets, which primarily serve kitchens and bathrooms.

“This is a big day for Oxford,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “This is something I have wanted for a long, long time.” Craft praised Wellborn’s family-run, community-focused approach, saying, “I have been impressed by the company’s involvement in their hometown of Ashland, Alabama, and decided these are the type of people we want in our community.”

Upon learning that Wellborn was searching for a new location, Craft said he contacted the Calhoun County Economic Development Council (EDC).

“All credit to Don and the EDC, who kept their ears to the ground, and when they heard we might have a chance at getting Wellborn Cabinets, they jumped on it,” Craft said. “I am so proud Wellborn is here, and I thank the Wellborn family.”

Calhoun County EDC Executive Director Don Hopper expressed gratitude for the collaboration that made the project possible. “We are thrilled to welcome Wellborn Cabinet to the Oxford West Industrial Park,” said Hopper. “The company was being heavily recruited while searching for a new location, but through strong partnerships and proactive engagement, we were able to showcase why this area was the right choice. I’m proud that our collaborative efforts helped bring them here, and I thank the Wellborn family for trusting us.”

The Oxford facility marks a significant achievement in the company's long-term mission to provide exceptional cabinetry for every home, every budget, and every stage of life.

“A project like this represents the kind of investment that continues to drive opportunity, innovation, and prosperity across our region,” said Larry Deason, Chairman of the Calhoun County EDC. “Their commitment to sustainability and community values aligns perfectly with the vision we have for this area.”

The First Haven Cabinetry facility marks another major milestone for the region’s growing manufacturing sector and demonstrates the strength of local partnerships in driving economic progress.
